Hanging Vanda plaque/Wooden Mounting Plaque
Support is the key to vanda
mounting. In Orchid species, vanda is a species in the orchid family. It
produces some of the more stunning blooms in the genera. This group of orchids
is native to tropical Asia. They are heating-love. In their local surroundings,
this orchid plant usually hangs from trees in nearly soilless media. It grows
and blooms on trees. The roots hang loose in the air or are wrapped around the
tree. These days, the best alternative to the tree is wood mounting plaque.
Features
Wooden Plaques- Wood pruned/trimmed from living hardwood trees is suitable for orchids
after being dried for a few months. And, wooden plaques are the best creation
made of wood. Traditionally this plant is grown in square baskets made of
wooden slats. Generally, orchids do best on totally natural unpainted wood, be
it branches, slabs or logs. Moreover, the wood mounting plaque/Vanda plaque is available at orchid nurseries in many parts of the world.
Hanging Plaque- These plaques are different then orchid baskets or pots. It has hooks
on the key points to balance while hanging. Wire or cord is there to attached or
holds to the hooks to form a hanger. Plastic-coated wire or florist tape can
also be used to hang it. It is one of the showiest and easiest orchids for home
growers to manage.
Sizes-
Different sizes of Vanda Plaques are there. Size and shape of driftwood may
vary according to the type of vanda orchids and its growth. Selected driftwood
should be analyzed for the best position, whether it is lying horizontally or
hang vertically. With this tray plaque, air circulation will also be good,
because as an ‘air plant’ the Vanda does not constantly need water.
Benefits
These orchids require a very
light substrate made of peat moss or bark and prefer to have their roots in the
air. They will do wonderfully in a suspended basket. When you put them indoor,
they appreciate the warmth of interiors ideally and tolerate the heat of summer
- provided with constant humidity. They also need a lot of light, ideally
zenith light (that comes from the top). They will survive in insufficient
light, but they will not bloom.
